Creamy Orange Julius With Coconut Milk & Fresh Herbs #SundaySupper

Sunithi Selvaraj, RD @ 20.01.2013 Blog 23 comments

Creamy Orange Julius with coconut milk & fresh herbs. Vegan, dairy free Orange Julius sweetened with honey is like drinking an orange creamsicle in a glass.  This drink was actually popularized by the fruit chain store by the name Orange Julius, which started in the 1920s. A delish combo of oranges, milk, sugar and vanilla make up a creamisicle in a drink. My Sunday Supper team is doing a Retro Recipes theme! So fun!!! You know those recipes you loved as a kid and still long for. I picked orange Julius. I have made this recipe before using almond milk, but this time given my current craze for coconut milk I had to try it with coconut milk.  I use silk coconut milk. It’s a lot lighter than canned coconut milk which I use for ice cream and desserts. The Orange Julius tasted creamy, cool and delish. I added some fresh thyme and fresh ginger to it and that just gave it a garden fresh taste. You can use fresh orange juice but I wanted to use whole oranges. I happen to have a high-powered vitamix blender which blends everything up really smooth so the oranges blend up smooth and give it an extra boost of fiber. I love that this drink is creamy, sweet, fruity and healthy and only takes minutes to make. I can indulge in a creamy, coconutty Orange Julius anytime!

Nutrition wise !

Oranges are packed with fiber, calcium, and vitamin D, E and bursting with vitamin C!!  The ginger has anti-inflammatory properties, is a natural stomach soother and aids in digestion. Use any type of orange and as much of the pulp in as possible to get extra fiber. Coconut milk is loaded with healthy fats that get burned by the body as fuel. It also has immune boosting properties.
