A fresh pink guava blended with some ginger, lemon and a pinch of chili drunk cold with ice cubes is what I am drinking right now! Been in India the past 10 days : a short vacay to see my parents so I have been eating and snacking on those foods I rarely get back in the States,  like guava. This is a recipe handed down by my mom and it tastes absolutely delish! The combo of sweet and chili with a hint of ginger is pure magic! This recipe actually gave me the push to blog again. Something I haven’t done in months! Hopefully it jump starts a habit that will continue. I did not have my DSLR so all my pics are phone pics!  Trust you will enjoy my hot and sweet  smoothie!

Nutrition Wise!

Guavas which are called super fruits  are extremely high in Vitamin C. They have 3 times the required RDA for the C vitamin! They are also rich in  vitamin A,  potassium and are  bursting with fiber. Pink guavas protect skin from UV rays and offer protection from prostate cancer. This is because of the high content of lycopene! All in all lots of good stuff in this tiny fruit.

On a personal note, this year has been a year of good-byes for me.  Let’s see,  in October of last year I resigned my job of 16 years and went into my own private practice and I had to say goodbye to colleagues I had worked with and a Job I has grown accustomed to. But it worked out.. a year later I can see all that good that has come out of it, one of them being the extra time I had with my oldest. A few weeks back, I had to say good bye to my oldest  as she left home to go to college. Well, she’ s close enough that I can see her a few weekends a month but it’s still hard not to see her face around the dinner table everyday! I ‘m trying to get used to it!  Now I find myself having to say good bye to my parents whose company I enjoyed the last few days.  I will be going back to my family who are looking forward to my return but it will still be hard to leave my folks. I wish there wasn’t this huge distance between us..10, 000 miles to be exact but it is what it is. Goodbyes have always been difficult for me and even with friends who come into my life for short periods of time, who I get attached to  it’s hard to let go. But I remind myself that with every goodbye and letting go there is growth. A sense of learning to depend on one’s self without being needy or selfish. For everything there is a season and as seasons change we adapt and become stronger people, more resilient to life’s changes.

Well, seems I am back to blogging so please check back in a few days for a new recipe and do excuse the longish personal note but I haven’t  blogged in long and writing about goodbyes has been cathartic for me. I will be blogging some nutrition tips and recipes minus the long notes soon :)! Thanks for stopping by!

  • I live on the border with Mexico, so we get Mexican produce, which means we get guavas. But I don’t think they are pink inside (haven’t bought any). Your smoothie sounds very refreshing. And I would love to eat my way through India – wonderful cuisines!
