Hot and Sweet Pork Chops crunchy on the outside and succulent on the inside. I have been using my new air fryer quite a bit of recent, and when I hit a jackpot recipe, blog it, I will. This is one such recipe. The sweet sauce combines with a little heat to tickle the palate into experiencing a myriad of exotic flavors. Add some tenderness courtesy of buttermilk, which not only adds a mysterious flavor but tenderizes the inside. Coated with almond flour for that crispy outside, you have a healthy, made to please sizzling hot dish. Basically, you spice the chops, roll them in buttermilk, coat with almond flour and air fry for 10 minutes. Remove, spread a homemade glace that I made using cherry jam, chili powder, butter, and air fry a little more. You can use regular bread crumbs if you wish. I used almond flour since my husband wants to eat gluten free and you can use any kind of berry or fruit jam to make the glace. Homemade glace is easy to customize and wholesome, in that, you know exactly what’s gone into it. You can also make this recipe in an oven if you do not have an air fryer. It will still come out tender, crispy and yummy! The secret ingredient here is buttermilk which tenderizes and flavors the pork beautifully. Buttermilk is nothing but beaten yogurt so make your own if you wish. I like caramelized onion on anything, so I added a few sliced onions on top which became beautifully caramelized and added to the flavor. We had this dish with a salad, and it was a pretty yummy meal. From my kitchen to yours! I hope you like this recipe.
Nutrition Wise:
Pork is considered the new white meat and is good source of protein. It has a fair amount of iron and b vitamins. Chili powder speeds metabolism and contains anti-cancer properties. Buttermilk is loaded with calcium and probiotics while almond flour adds some heart healthy vitamin E to this A nutrient loaded dish!
Tips on Using an Air Fryer:
Since I have been using the air fryer for two weeks now, I think I have figured a few pointers through trial and error and I am going to share those with you.
- Always grease the air fryer pan with a little olive oil or butter. It helps with clean up and more importantly gives the fried taste that you are looking for.
- Adding some oil or butter on top of the meat/ veggie while cooking also adds to the fried taste and help [s with browning
- Watch the spice. In an air fryer unlike fried food and baked, the flavor stays on the food, so all flavor is intensified. So, if you over salt it or add too much spice your tongue could be on fire.
- Add fresh herbs, cheese, sauces and glace halfway through cooking or in the last 5 minutes. If you add them in the beginning they tend to get burnt and adding it later helps keep the flavor fresh and wholesome.
- If you feel your meat is not cooked or you would like it crisper, just pop it right back in for an additional few minutes. I have tried following recipes online and often fond they overcook or under-cook my meats. So, the best judge of your food would be you. The beauty of an air fryer is that you van pop it right back in and the cooking picks up from when it started.
- Customize to suit your family s needs. I like my steak a little rare, but my family does not, so I take one piece of steak out at 15 minutes and keep the rest of the steak for my family for an extra five minutes.
