Is LEMONADE Healthy ? Recipes for Healthy Low Calorie Lemonade

Sunithi Selvaraj, RD @ 16.04.2012 A-Z Blogging Challenge 8 comments

I was pondering my options on blogging the letter L for the A-Z blogging challenge and my husband walked in with a double pack of Costco lemonade. My kids dived into it as did the grown ups. What’s not to love about a cool glass of fresh lemonade ? It’s the most refreshing drink you can reach for on hot summer day. Is lemonade healthy ? Traditionally, store-bought lemonade is not very healthy. The amount of sugar that goes into making lemonade equals that of soda. Lemon is a wonderful fruit. It is loaded with Vitamin C  and had the ability to turn everything it touches into pure magic,  but  the tart lemon needs a lot of sugar to turn into sweet lemonade. I love lemonade and have experimented with making healthier versions of it  which am sharing with you. Both of these recipes are absolutely delish and will have you craving more healthy lemonade.

Magic properties of lemon :A large lemon contains about 45 mg of Vitamin C, about 75% of the daily requirement! We need Vitamin C to fend off colds and heal cuts and wounds. They are a natural aid for digestion and weight loss,  and  are  a natural internal body cleanser. They have powerful antioxidant and anti-cancer healing properties.

 Healthy Lemonade Recipes:

Be Creative !! Make your own lemon – fruit combinations or make pure lemon lemonade by substituting half or all of the sugar with agave nectar or stevia.  Use the lemon, but cut the sugar.
