Light refreshing mango aqua fresca infused with mint and lemon makes a cool refreshing summer cooler. Add some chia seeds to turn it into a super healthy treat! My Sunday Supper team is doing a Cinco de Mayo (Mexican Independence Day) theme and I jumped in with my favorite drink: Mango Aqua Fresca! A cross between a smoothie and a slushy aqua frescas are the ultimate water coolers which originated in Mexico. Water infused with fruit, herbs, seeds, nuts, rice etc to give it a zippy boost work great as a thirst quencher in my opinion. When I start to drink a mango aqua fresca ( my favorite kind) I can’t stop sipping and my fluid intake increases !! I like mine low-calorie so I don’t add any sugar to it, but I add some stevia to lightly sweeten. Sometimes the fruit is so sweet I don’t need any added sweetness. Chia seeds are a staple in Mexico, so they fit right in with the theme. Adding a tsp of chia seeds to mango aqua Fresca makes it super potent, add texture and when the chia seeds soak in it feels like you’re drinking exotic passion fruit juice. I like to float some mint and lemon slices which add a burst of extra flavor. Aqua frescas are so versatile. Serve them at an elegant party or just detox with them ! My favorite summer drinks are aqua frescas, especially a mango aqua fresca!
Nutrition Wise!
Mango is rich in pre-biotic dietary fiber, vitamins, minerals, and poly-phenolic flavonoid antioxidant compounds. Also bursting with vitamin A and C mango is often referred to as a super fruit. Chia seeds are the new super food! They have a healthy dose of fiber, omega 3 and other super nutrients. Add these two super foods together and you have a super healthy drink all in a Mango Aqua Fresca! Sweet!!
