Feeling Sluggish ? Turn On Detox, Drop Pounds and Rejuvenate


If you Loaded up on every type of  dessert and wine, Slacked on your workout, Skimped on sleep and Stuffed yourself just like the Turkey this Holiday season a Detox may be just what you need to get back on track for the new year.

Since I am horribly guilty of the above especially the dessert part, I put myself on a detox the last couple of days .. third day going and I Feel Great ! This is a Simple Easy to follow detox that can be tweaked to suit your needs. Do it for one day, 3 days,  or 5 days  and beyond. I Am doing the 3 days, and maybe 5 days if I feel like so I can get the total benefit. The first day was the probably the hardest,  because I was home  and Ummm .. kids were baking brownies  HELP !! It was horribly tempting cause I LOVE LOVE brownies and have a sweet tooth.   Second and third day at work. Much easier Thank You !  So try to do what works best for you 🙂 And Yes ! Make sure you have access to a restroom nearby. You will want to Peeee and it’s  ALL good since you are ridding yourself of toxins. So trying to say : Do not Plan this when your’e on a long road trip 😉

Some Technical Jargon about what a Detox can do for you. 

Reduce the amount of toxins and pollution into our body by clearing our body effectively of toxins and purifying blood.

Improve our Immune Function by Scavenging  free radicals,  Cleanse mucous, congestion, fermentation, inflammation in our digestive tract

Helps to neutralize the effects of sugar, salt, high glycemic carbohydrates, alcohol, junk foods, nicotine, etc

Can give you a jump-start to weight loss. Diets and Weight Loss plans are generally more effective when followed by a detox. My favorite reason !


DETOX shopping list

Vegetables: Fresh , organic if possible or just use my homemade fruit & veggie spray    to get almost organic produce. Must have veggies are Celery, Cucumber, Carrots, Green or Red Peppers, Tomatoes, Lettuce, Cabbage.

Fruits : Must have fruits are Grapefruit, Apples, Oranges, Nectarines , Watermelon and other Melons ( in season) Lime, Lemon

Cran Water : A mix of pure Cranberry Juice + water in the ratio of 1:4. Buy Unsweetened pure Cranberry Juice at Health food stores.

Flax seed, Pyllium Husk  : ( optional) If you want to increase fiber esp for days 3 and beyond. Psyllium husk is available in health food stores and stores like Walmart, Target etc.

Nuts : unsalted For days 3 and beyond

Almond Milk/ Soy Milk : for days 3 and beyond to give you some clean protein and fat burning benefits.

Whey Protein : ( Low Carb kind ) For Days 3 &  beyond for clean protein and fat blasting benefits.

Teas : decaffeinated Green, Oolong, Dandelion, Mint , Detox teas, Herbal teas. Drink Plain without sugar. Add Stevia if needed to sweeten.


This is basically a veggie/ fruit juice detox so you would need a juicer. If you want to purchase juice , buy organic Carrot juice ( Odwalla Brand ) or any other comparable kind. Not the ones you see on the supermarket shelves. If you do not have a juicer, I have  provided a recipe for a  detox soup that you can drink  through the day.

Day 1 : Drink 8 ounces of veggie/ fruit juice every 3 to 4 hrs and hydrate with herbal teas, Cran water and water in between.

 Sample Plan ( use any combo of juices that you like) I just put down what I had and my kids think I drink crazy concoctions 🙂 so you could make better ones ! Use a lot of celery :It pulls water from your body.

On rising : Lemon with warm water

8.00am – 8 oz Grapefruit+ Tangerine + Celery juice

9.00 am – 8 oz Cran water or plain water ( spike water with lemon if you wish )

10.00am – 1 cup herbal tea

11.00am – 8 oz Carrot+ bell pepper + Apple + Celery juice

Repeat cycle with other juice combos till 9.00 am.


Day 2 :

Same as  Day 1. Add a filling veggie salad for lunch and dinner if needed. Sprinkle ground flax on the salads to increase fiber . Drink 1 tbs of Psyllium husk with cran water or plain water. This will promote some good and easy bowel movement and help you eliminate toxins.

Day3 : Same as  Day 2 . Add some unsalted nuts if needed.

5 Day Detox and BEYOND

Follow the 3 day detox and your body ( liver ) has been DETOXED  and in now ALL primed up to Blast Fat ! Not kidding .. what you eat after your detox is very important, so if blasting some fat off is what you want… Go ahead and do the five days … you might have to buy new clothes 😉 A nice reward for all the pain endured !

Day 4 and Day 5

Follow all the principles of day 1 but add 3 high protein shakes at meal times.

Shake = 1 glass soy/ almond milk ( No diary) + 1/2 scoop protein powder + 1/4 cup frozen fruit ( optional) + 1 tsp Stevia ( optional).

If you’re not a Big fan of shakes (although in my opinion they will probably be the best fat blasting bet) you can eat clean proteins like chicken, fish with the salad.

After the five-day detox, if you completed the course, continue a generous helping of veggies and protein and you could follow My Modified Version of the Alkaline Diet  to keep the weight off or just eat HEALTHY !

Some DETOX tips

One day detox is good on a regular basis like 1/week or 2/ month. 3 day once a month and the 5 day maybe once or twice a year.

Go easy on yourself.  If you did  eat a little jelly bean or a brownie bite , well it’s not going to completely ruin the detox. Just continue.

Keep drinking : Dont wait to feel thirsty or hungry. Keep hydrating yourself with fluid and you’ll do fine. You can carry the juice to work in a thermos or Stainless Steel Bottle.

Snack on fruit in between if the carving  to eat something solid comes up. Salads and the detox soup are another option to get the ” eating something ” feel !

Go as far as your body can handle. No point doing the five-day detox and then gorging on brownies as soon as you finish because you felt so deprived. If 1 day or 3 days is all you can handle you should stop when your body signals you to. Although from experience will tell you, each day gets easier. ALL the best and I would be very interested to hear your thoughts and comments especially if you did complete the detox !



Detox Vegetable soup

Yield: 10 -12 servings

Serving Size: 1 cup


  • 2 quarts water
  • 1 cabbage
  • 4 tomatoes
  • I green pepper
  • 2 onions
  • 4carrots
  • 1 whole stalk of celery
  • 2 cups Spinach
  • 4 tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp Mrs Dash( optional)
  • 1/2 tsp pepper ( optional)


  1. Cut up all ingredients coarsely and boil in water for 40 minutes. Season as required, but go easy on the salt. Using Mrs Dash will eliminate the need for salt.
  2. Drink with veggies all through the day.
